Polybian is Penn GPA's informal and social branch, with weekly symposium discussions surrounding a chosen topic open to all Penn students.
SymposiumsEvery Thursday night, Polybian gathers to discuss a relevant political or philosophical topic. With a broad spectrum of perspectives on display, we take turns debating, allowing the conversation to naturally flow. Dinner is provided every week.
Some topics are very specific, while others are broader in focus. Topics are chosen during leadership board meetings, though all members are encouraged to pitch ideas for consideration. The only pre-determined symposiums are our annual Halloween Conspiracy Symposium and Valentine's Day Love Symposium. |
Initiation
Polybian's semesterly initiation is for new members to be officially inducted into the community. By tradition, initiation features a character debate where members choose a well-known personality (political or apolitical, nonfictional or fictional) and discuss with each other in character.
